A day in the life of a monk

St. Mathews School, Bradford – game board project

Bulletpoint Design have undertaken a diverse range of work with Education Bradford (1998-2010) and the EBP (Education Business Partnership).

In 2003 we worked with pupils from St. Mathews primary school, Bradford on a pupil’s concept called: ‘A day in the life of a monk’. Working with a small budget, Bob Jones (EBP) asked Bulletpoint to help produce a dozen professionally looking finished products – what we call ‘mock’ups’…

…A professional illustration was commissioned, digitally printed and mounted, playing cards were added and we even had dice and playing pieces. The pupils involved in the concept were asked to come in on work experience to see how their idea had been developed, and just like a real client in the world of work, were each asked to sign off an approval sheet prior to print. “It just looks the same, just like ours!” said one of the happy pupils. The best bit was watching the children playing the finished game and being filmed up at Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds (where the monks originally lived) which then appeared in a feature on Calendar (YTV).

It’s just another day in the life of a designer at Bulletpoint. “One day we were creating a concept built around national guidelines (We Mean Business)… the next, turning an idea by school pupils into a live work experience project.”
